Art Crawl This Weekend!

Art Crawl is a lot of fun! Last year I had a little to drink and eat each Gallery stop, by the end of the night I was hitch hiking for after hour buses!

It will be lots of fun this year because CKC StART friends and community gallery, Aerosol Warfare, is participating!

From 10 am to 8pm on Saturday Nov. 22, you can see what the Houston Art Scene had to offer. You go from one gallery to art space, to studio.. .all the while meeting and smoozing with the various Houston art communities!

ACK, SODE, WEAH, & Marco from Houston are the featured artists this month at Aerosol Warfare Gallery. visit http://www.aerosolwarfare.com/ for more info on the show!

002 Magazine Cover Contest

Carolyn of CKC StART entered on a whim the 002 Magazine Cover Contest.  With all the recent bold business ambition I figured it would be good to show some personal creativity.  I will update with my design submission soon!  As soon as I win...ok even if I don't : )

DJ Melodic Benefit & Musical Tribute

CKC StART was pleased to contribute to DJ Melodic Benefit and Musical Tribute event on Nov. 16th 2008. We provided a 175.00 Gift Certificate for a CKC StART Workshop as a raffle item.

I was unable to attend the event, however after speaking with Tina Zulu, she reported that they raised aprox. $17,000! This is so great for the family of Soular Grooves member, DJ Melodic (Paco) who recently had cardiac arrest. When I was contacted he was in a coma and his close friends invited me to be a small part of this wonderfully big event. He was able to pull through and actually attend his own benefit. Such great news for everyone! Best wishes to the close friends and family from CKC StART. I appreciate the invite to contribute! Here are links to pictures taken during the event...

Z-Trip In Houston

The world famous Z-Trip made a one night stop in Houston last night. We had an opportunity to meet up with him for dinner, then ended up hanging out at Aerosol Warfare gallery. It was cool to meet him.

Later that night we all headed out to Pub Fictionand we were treated to an incredible performance! I've heard his mixes (and loved them), but it's one thing to hear his mix, vs seeing him do his thing LIVE! I cannot even explain the amount work he put into his music, much less describe how he did it!

Orange Show Gala - Day Of The Dead

One of the most reverent holidays of the year was celebrated at The Orange Show Gala "Day of the Dead" theme party. Gonzo247 and I went all out like we did in 2007. It was lots of fun!

CKC StART At Discovery Green

CKC StART was hired last minute by Discovery Green to do a small Mural Activity for Nov. 1st 2008 during the day.  It was fun!  The mural was a walk-up station led by Carolyn.  Children of all ages had free creative control to paint on a stand-up 8x10 canvas.  I will update with pictures of the finished product soon!

Hurricane Ike

Hi there, I think everyone in Houston are being extremly well natured about everything since it looks like we have our health. I also think the weather change has helped everyone keep calm through this whole event. If it were humid and hot like it was before the hurricane I think it would be ten times worse!

I feel terrible about Galveston and any people and places that got it worse then us. Please email or call us if you need help finding resources. ckc.series@gmail.com or 713-822-5103.

We cancelled our workshop for the weekend and hope to have the 4th meeting to the first session this coming saturday if everyone is up for it. The Gallery did well and Gonzo will be getting it back in order this week. He is unsure if it has power though.

Our 4th workshop meeting to the very first Session will take place in the next week or so. We are excited to call the workshop a success. Please come by and check out the meeting if your interested in signing up for the next session.

For those out of town our city has billboards down and damaged. My friend got a tree on her garage and crushed her two cars. I waited in line for gas yesterday it took an hour. People are cleaning out freezers and refrigerators, and curfew has been set for Houston at 9pm to 6am since barely any traffic lights at intersections are working. My daughter's school district has a message that they are closed all week! Her school I’m sure has no power. I'm back at work, our office suite got lucky because the other side of our building has broken windows.

My car made it! It was pinned in but untouched by a huge tree, amazing sight of luck!

All in all everyone is enjoying some down time from technology in the city, we saw a gorgeous full moon last night. The only light in sight was moon light!

Hope everyone is well
